WE ARE STRONGER TOGETHER

Dear community members,

Despite the bitter divisiveness of our national political dialogue, the San Francisco Lithuanian community has shown a glimpse of hope and unity working together toward common goals. 

Starting with Cepelinu Balius and culminating at our annual Fall Ball, we have exceeded our Fundraiser goal of raising $10,000 for San Francisco Lithuanian community. One half of all the donations will go to support the amazing work being done at Saturday Lithuanian School "Genys". The rest will benefit the events for our community. 

Special thanks to the many community members who supported or led these efforts including our community's leadership, Cepelinu Balius chefs, Saturday School teachers, Fall Ball organizing committee Marija Steibliene and Laura Dunn and the largest donors Nerija and Jason Titus, Donatas Januta, Rita & Keith Rosicker, Jurate Raulinaitis & Kirk Schneider, Aida Sakalauskaitė ir Vytautas Staraitis, Virgilija  & Martin Tali and many others. For these collective efforts, San Francisco Lithuanian Community stands as a beacon to this nation, showing how community can thrive, how people can collaborate, and how we can move forward together. 

We may have disagreements over the coming years, but where we have a common purpose, we have to stay strong. Since the new U.S. leadership has expressed doubts over automatically defending NATO allies in the Baltics if they came under Russian attack, it's especially important for the Lithuanian community to stay united. The role of our community has never been more important.

Never doubt- We are stronger together.

Kodėl man svarbi SF Lietuvių bendruomenė

Marketingo asė, JAV lietuvių bendruomenės Krasto Tarybos narė, buvusi SF bendruomenės pirmininkė

Bendruomenės veikloje aktyviai dalyvauju jau beveik 10 metų.  Ji tapo svarbia mano gyvenimo dalimi, be kurios jau sunku būtų save įsivaizduoti.  

Mūsų bendruomenė man tai nėra vien 4 + metiniai renginiai, į kuriuos ateinu tik susitikti su draugais ir smagiai praleist laiką. Man tai nėra ir prievolė- dalyvauju ne dėlto, kad esu lietuvė ir kad reikia, o kad noriu. 

Bendruomenė -  mano pirmoji lyderystės mokykla. Prisimenu, kaip drebėjo keliai, kai 2010 m. pirmą kartą oficialiai prisistačiau. Dabar galiu be didesnio pasiruošimo atsistoti ir pasisakyti  prieš 200 žmonių minią. Bendruomenėje yra mano artimiausi draugai- per jos veiklą susipažinau su fantastiškais žmonėmis, kurių kitaip ko gero ir nebūčiau sutikus. 

Darbas bendruomenėje ženkliai išplėtė profesinių kontaktų ratą. Susipažinau su žymiais Lietuvos meno, kultūros, politikos ir verslo atstovais. Šeštadieninės lituanistinės mokyklos dėka mano vaikai pažįsta Lietuvą ne tik kaip vietą, kur gyvena seneliai ir kur jie praleidžia vasaras, bet yra susipažinę su jos kultura ir istorija. Jie ten išmoko sugiedoti Lietuvos himną, kartu su kitais draugais, o ne tėvų verčiami, todėl taip greitai ir neužmirš. 

O svarbiausia-  išmokau daugiau tolerancijos- išklausyti ir išgirsti kitokias nuomones, suprasti kitas kartas ir iš jų pasimokyti. Išmokau pirmiausia duoti, o ne laukti, kol gausiu pati.

Džiaugiuosi matydama, kaip gražiai auga mokykla- tikriausiai nesuklysiu teigdama, kad turim vieną didžiausių (jei ne didžiausią) lituanistinių mokyklų JAV ( pagal bendruomenės dydį). 

Džiaugiuosi bendruomenės valdybos veikla- nuo pirmų nedrąsių žingsnių iki nerealiai ambicingų projektų ( pvz. $10,000 per 1.5 mėnesio),  jauna stipri komanda, energijos ir naujausių technologinių sprendimų dėka, bendruomenės veiklą pakėlė į modernios dinamiškos organizacijos lygį. Dažnai girdžiu, kad esam įkvepiantis pavyzdys kitoms bendruomenėms. Aš tuo didžiuojuosi.

Artėja Rudens Balius- gražiausias ir labiausiai laukiamas bendruomenės renginys.  Į jį ateinam pasidžiaugti tuo, kas sukurta (ruduo- derliaus metas).  Ateinam pasisemti ypatingos  šventinės energijos, kurią sukuria ir aplinka, ir patys dalyviai. Ateinam susipažinti su naujais žmonėmis- šiais metais tikimės sulaukti dar daugiau svečių - iš Los Andželo, Portlando, rytinės JAV pakrantės, galbūt ir iš Lietuvos. Bandau nepraleisti progos susipažinti su kiekvienu nauju veidu (vis dar prisimenu, kaip pirmą kartą atėjau į renginį ir buvo labai nejauku, nes nieko nepažinojau.) Prieiti prie naujai atėjusio nėra tik paprastas, žmogiškas, iš pirmo žvilgsnio nereikšmingas gestas. Tai gali nulemti viso vakaro sėkmę ir nuo jo priklausys, ar jis norės sugrįžti, ar ne. 

Todėl dar kartą  visu kviečiu dalyvauti ir bendrauti! Iki greito!

Why SF Lithuanian Community is important is important

I’ve been involved in our community for almost 10 years and it has become a very important part of my life. To me, the community is much more than just 4 + events/ year where I go to have fun with my friends.
The community is my first leadership school. I still remember when in 2010I first stood up to introduce myself…with my knees shaking.  I can now speak in front of 200 + crowd without a big preparation. 
Through community I met my closest friends.
My professional network has expanded dramatically and keeps growing. 
I met a lot of well -known Lithuanian artists, business people and politicians. 
 
Thanks to the Lithuanian Saturday school, my children got to know Lithuania not only as the country where their grandparents live and where they spend their summers. They’ve learned about its history and culture.
 
I’m very excited to see the Lithuanian school growing- we’re so lucky to have one of the biggest schools in the US (considering community’s population).
 
I’m very proud of the community’s managing board- from the first modest steps to the super ambitions projects  ($10,000 in 1.5 months), the young and dynamic team has taken the community to the new levels, using the newest tools in technology. 
 
The Fall Ball is approaching quickly. This is the most anticipated and the most beautiful event of the year.  We’re coming to celebrate Fall and the harvest. We’re coming to enjoy the special energy, created by the beautiful venue and the participants themselves. We’re coming to meet the new people- this year we’re expecting even more guests- from Los Angeles, Portland, East Coast, and maybe even Lithuania.  Let’s make them feel super welcome, so they want to come back again.

Lietuvybės puoselėjimas - kiekvieno iš mūsų atsakomybė

Sf Lietuvių bendruomenės valdybos narė, lituanistinės mokyklos "genys" mokytoja, menų ir teatrų mylėtoja, amžina studentė.

Dažnai manęs paklausia: "Marija, kam tau?". Atsakymas visada vienas: "Nes man RŪPI". Man rūpi žmonės, kurie mane supa. Man rūpi lietuvių bendruomenės ateitis, nes esu jos dalis. Rūpi mokyklos ateitis, nes be jos nebus lietuvių bendruomenės kartos, kuriai RŪPĖS.

Šiandien aktyviai dalyvauju bendruomenės ir lituanistinės mokyklos gyvenime. Jame viskas verda. Naujų lietuvių vis atvyksta į apylinkę, naujų geniukų vis atskrenda į mokyklą.

Gyvendami toli nuo Lietuvos aktyviai mokomės svetimų kalbų, tradicijų, švenčiame naujas šventes, bei įsiliejam į naujas kultūras tapdami dalimi kažko naujo. Kaip tokiam šurmuliuke išsaugoti ir puoselėti tai kas sava - lietuviška?

Vienas iš atsakymų yra bendruomenė ir lituanistinė mokykla. Tik su Jūsų pagalba įmanoma jų veiklą vystyti ir plėsti. Entuziastingų žmonių, atsidavusių savanorių ir įkvėptų mokytojų neužtenka, kad bendruomenė klestėtų. Reikia dalelės JŪSŲ paramos ir pagalbos.

Kviečiu jūs spalio 8 d.  17 val. į NEMOKAMĄ vakaronę, kur jums gros, dainuos ir šoks 25 profesionalūs lietuvių folkloro atlikėjai gražaus Presidio parko apsupty. Unikalūs lietuviški tautiniai rūbai, autentiški instrumentai, dainos ir rateliai!

Keldami patys sau tikslą puoselėti lietuvybę, skleiskime ją ne tik tarp lietuvių, bet ir tarp mus supančių artimų žmonių. Programa bus pritaikyta ir angliakalbiams žiūrovams. Pakvieskite draugus ir atvykite užtraukti gimtąją dainą kartu. Nes tik taip Lietuva bus gyva, kol ta gimtoji daina lūpose skambės!

Lithuanian heritage - is everyone's responsibility

People usually ask me "Marija, why you are doing this?". The answer is always the same: "Because I CARE". I care about people, who are around me. I care about the future of the Lithuanian community, because I am a part of it. I care about the future of the Lithuanian School, because without it, there will be no Lithuanian community generation that WILL CARE.

Today, I actively participate in the life of the community and the school. Everything is boiling there. New Lithuanians are arriving to the Bay Area, new "Genys" students joining the classes.

Living far away from Lithuania, we learn foreign languages, traditions, celebrate new holidays and join new cultures by becoming a part of something new. How do we keep and foster what is yours - Lithuanian - among that noise?

One answers is the Lithuanian community and the school. Only with your support it is possible to develop and expand their activities. Enthusiastic people, dedicated volunteers and inspired teachers are not enough. We need YOUR help and support.

I invite you to come to a Lithuanian evening on October 8th, 5 pm, FREE ADMISSION.  25 folk artists straight from Lithuania will perform for you surrounded by beautiful Presidio. Unique Lithuanian folk costumes, authentic instruments, songs and dances!

Challenging yourself to foster Lithuanian heritage, spread it not only through Lithuanians, but also through your family and friends. Invite them too! The program is adapted for English speakers as well. Invite your beloved ones and let's sing native songs together, because only that way, Lithuania will be alive.
